I wish I was a little bit taller

I apologise for the all-time low on the creativity front. Having the blues tends to take the shine off my writing-elbow. (Elbow makes no logical sense, I know, it just seems to fit there.)

So instead of making the effort, I'm going to make you work in QUESTIONULAR FORM.

My question is this:

What activity or pass-time do you secretly wish you were cool enough for?
For me, it's graffiti. I wrote a bit about it here, but basically, I do not have the hiphop credentials to pick up a spraycan and know which end to point at the wall.

Interesting thing of the day: The Life and Times of a Replicator Repairman.

  1. I'd have to be Martial Art of some kind. Bōjutsu would be awesome.... but anything would be better than nothing at all :D

  2. Everyone is cool enough for martial arts!

There are many martial arts schools that are silly (we call 'em McDojos) and teach unrealistic and ineffective techniques. Some of them are for posers and just teach flashy stuff. Some of them are quasi-mystical cults who make spurious claims.

If you're lucky, though, you find a place where you can have fun, learn a skill and get fit.

I'd suggest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it's very technical, great fun, and because it's primarily grappling it can be trained more or less full force on a fully resistant opponent. It's a great system for ground fighting.

Boxing is brilliant for fitness and self defense.

My advice would be to just avoid ANYTHING with air punching, LARP-style scripted sequences, a cultish atmosphere, or excessive bowing and scraping!

  3. To answer the question, I wish I could play pool. Pool is difficult.

  4. My answer would have to be...a stunt actor or a free runner, because it would be fun and there is a sense of freedom in either of them (stuntman - everyday life would have a new twist, free runner - obstacles would become exciting challenges).

  5. I wish I were a professional musician, just not an amateur one who also happens to write blogs when he gets bored.

Is your title a reference to the song which continues, "...wish I was a baller, wish I had a girl, who was good, I would call her, wish I had a rabbit and a bat and a hat and a six-four Ivana"? I remember Blink182 rapping that halfway through a song for no reason once.

  6. Well spotted, ILB! Class song. Not the blink 182 version, the skee-lo one. Awesome.

  7. Either breakdancing, or being a conman. The first would be amazing to be able to do, the second would make me that little bit more like Sawyer.

Oh, and you guys should check out the 2 Many DJs remix of I Wish. Not as good as Skee-Lo's effort, but still great. Oh, and when we saw Blink live they did it in the middle of either Dammit or Man Overboard, probably the former.

  8. I would love to be a helicopter pilot; or, like Innocent Loverboy, a pro musician, except that I'm not even an amateur one.

  10. Gav :- I've done a very tiny bit of Judo back when i started high school (AGES! ago). a few years ago i inquired about some Kung Fu here on the isle of wight but didnt take it any further than that cos i didnt have the money to do it in the end, so i've come very close before haha. Maybe i'll take the chance one day. i think it would help me with confidence etc too :D I think i would really enjoy it as im very interested in eastern culture too.

  11. I wish I were cool enough to be a travel show host... that would be an amazing job! Too bad I am just too lame for that! :O)

I would also like to be a skydiver... that would be cool, not just the observer I am

  12. After watching the special features on Wall-E, I would love to be a pixar animator! actually i'm not sure if that's "not cool enough" or "not a computer-nerd enough", but that might be the same thing :P

  13. Ohhh I reacted the same way. What a film. Gav refuses to watch it with me, so I'm going to force it on my mates instead!

  14. Free runner. I often wonder "what skill would I like to have", and if it's at all computer related I go out and begin learning it, but with free running I'm just not brave enough or fit enough or indeed cool enough to have a go.

  15. I would want to be a European...America is only fun until you realize you LIVE here...it's like being able to go to Disneyland 37 times in 18 years...too much time there!!!

  16. Interesting point and question, but I found your answer silly. Graffiti is vandelism and I myself look down on it... you would have to be pretty low to pick up a spray paint pot why don't you pick up a nice book instead.

  17. Legal graffiti isn't vandalism at all, it's an art form. There are three legal walls in Cardiff alone. And I assure you, I have no shortage of nice books. Thanks for dropping by.
