Reassuring thoughts on the economy

I know it's all doom and gloom at the moment, but I'd like to bring a little ray of financial optimism into your life.

Think about it like this: If the economy got into a terrible state, and we were all suddenly very poor, and prices went up, nobody would be able to buy anything. Nobody would be able to buy anything from Tesco, or from Rupert Murdoch, or from Microsoft. This is a classic case of the goose that lays the golden egg shitting itself to death, and you can bet that these huge GloboHyperMegaCorps with billions of dollars at their disposal don't want that to happen. It is in their best interests that things stay basically ok, and they've got the leverage to make sure that happens.

I do research for these posts, you know. I even looked up Forbes' list of the top 2000 companies, but it was boring.

So to summarise: Very rich and powerful companies want you to be able to buy what you need to live, and also plenty of stuff you don't need. We also want to be able to buy this stuff. Happily ever after.

Change of subject. I was thinking earlier...
Chocolate in winter doesn't melt as quickly. Somehow this gives it an entirely different feel. I'd go so far as to say that it seems to have far fewer calories than the heavy, sweet, sticky-as-sin summer chocolate. Not as nice though, especially when your face is so cold that you can't taste it properly and the momentary look of mild disappointment gets frozen onto your face and you spend the rest of the day looking slightly despondent until you find a radiator to hug.

Witterage is a good word

You know what, I've thought long and hard about it, and I've decided that buying chocolate eggs is a really arbitrary way of celebrating the resurrection. In addition, I haven't lost the extra squidge from all that Christmas chocolate yet! So I'm very sorry to inform Mr Cadbury's and all the rest of you that I won't be participating this year. If you're lucky I might make you something nice instead.

My housemates and I went to the pub quiz last night! We did ok, came over halfway which is an improvement on what we normally get, and our suggestion for the quiz's new name was chosen. So, yay, contributions! I was tempted to stay in and watch Lost again (I am an addict. Also, you just lost the game. But I didn't!!!) but I thought I'd prolong the agony and catch a repeat instead. Hooked though I may be on all that losty goodness - and the podcasts, heaven help me - it's high time I started having a social life again. Ah well, with any luck I'm out of here in a few months!

How very strange. I just wrote an email to gav and instead of the usual way I talk to him, I was talking in my blog-style. Peculiar. I wasn't aware I had a blog-style. Ah well, I can only assume that the boundless nature of my literary genius astounds even me. And I'm so freakin' modest too!!

So, yes, nothing terribly constructive today, but when is it ever. Thanks for enduring my witterage.

A stranger in a strange land

I had one seminar on my timetable for today, and it turns out that was a mistake. So instead of going home and moping, I thought I'd go exploring. I did the same after my lecture yesterday, I found the train station so that I could get my boy next week without getting lost. Today I found the shops! Oh my gosh! I don't really like shopping, but after living in a student ghetto for a fortnight it was such a relief to be back in the real world.

I wandered around happily knowing that I could be myself, that I could talk to people without being nervous. That's who I really am. I'm a vaguely confident, happy person - but for some reason I can't be that at university. YET. I can't wait to start being myself again, it'll be such a relief!

It's been strange, actually worrying about what people think of me. It's affected everything I do, say, and even wear! That's not like me at all! Back home I wear what I damn well like because I know that I know what I'm doing. I know people and they know me. That's a very enviable position to be in, and I never realised that until now, when I'm completely anonymous and there's nobody I know. Fingers crossed that'll change soon.

Things have been a bit rocky with God lately, so any prayers would be so much appreciated. Life in general is a bit odd right now, just because there's so much that's new. But I'm hopeful, and positive, and I swear it's not just the fairtrade chocolate talking. Mmmm. Fairtrade chocolate makes you thinner! And boosts you IQ! And other such self-delusive lies.

(Is 'delusive' right? It should be.)

I want to thank you guys who read / comment here, you're all so incredibly supportive... it's wonderful to know that there are people who care. God bless you.
