Black and Gold

Black and gold landscape photo
If the fish swam out of the ocean
and grew legs and they started walking
and the apes climbed down from the trees
and grew tall and they started talking

and the stars fell out of the sky
and my tears rolled into the ocean
now I'm looking for a reason why
you even set my world into motion

'cause if you're not really here
then the stars don't even matter
now I'm filled to the top with fear
but it's all just a bunch of matter
'cause if you're not really here
then I don't want to be either
I wanna be next to you
black and gold
black and gold
black and gold

I looked up into the night sky
and see a thousand eyes staring back
and all around these golden beacons
I see nothing but black

I feel a way of something beyond them
I don't see what I can feel
if vision is the only validation
then most of my life isn't real

'cause if you're not really here
then the stars don't even matter
now I'm filled to the top with fear
but it's all just a bunch of matter
'cause if you're not really here
then I don't want to be either
I wanna be next to you
black and gold
black and gold
black and gold

Listen to the song here

This song must have washed over me a thousand times. This kind usually does, to be honest, but today the lyrics finally managed to get through my expectations and smack me between the eyes. This is a much more eloquent version of what I've been saying for the past couple of weeks.

Thanks, Gav, for putting up with all my crying and miscellaneous assholery. You're an angel.

  1. Hi Ana It are I Akademik from Hbb, but i guess it's better if i use my real name. My Name is Javier. I tend to write a lot of poetry , i just started using this blogger thing so some will be up soon. I'd jsut liek to tell you that i enjoyed your black and gold poem very much, especially the sincerity of your writing, when i usually read a poem from someone i know they don't tend to really think of what they are writing at all they just rhyme as much as possible but has no relevancy to a theme. and though i do not ever look for a specific theme as poems can be quite random, i do like that it feels like i can follow your mental process through your writing. feels liek im thinking what you write and not just reading it. well in any case very nice, hope to read more. and if you want look into my blogger every now and then and tell me what you think of my poems.

  2. Hi Javier! Thanks for checking out my blog. About the poem - check the link at the bottom, it's actually the lyrics to a song by Sam Sparro. The song is ok, but it's the lyrics I really love.

  4. “I wrote it in 10 minutes. It just came to me one night when I was feeling lonely and wondering if god exists. I picked up a pen and the first draft of lyrics is what is on the radio!”

Shiza. I've got a lot of respect for anyone who can knock THAT out in ten freakin' minutes!
